Episode 25: "How do I love myself in a fatter body?"
I was recently asked the question: “How do I love myself in a fatter body?”
How you relate to your body is how most of the world will relate to your body. The universe will mirror back what you think about yourself.
When I was young, I was told that I was so fat I was going to break my horse’s back. I grew up in nineties diet culture and took on so much unhelpful messaging in the era of heroin chic. The trend was to be thin like Kate Moss and Paris Hilton. Even eyebrows had to be thin 🤣. I was scouted for modelling but told I needed to lose weight. Then I became a plus-size model and told I needed to gain weight. My energy was consumed by focusing on my appearance and feeling bad about myself.
Self-love changed everything.
There is an infinite well of love that lies within you. When you tap into this well, your perception of your self and your body is based on love, acceptance and compassion.
Loving yourself at any size is a rebellious act because you're rebelling against diet culture and patriarchal systems of oppression that are designed to keep women small.
You are worthy. You are worthy at any size. You are always worthy.
Stress, sleep and what’s going on in your life are all factors in determining what’s going on in your body. We are cyclical beings; we are constantly changing and shifting. When I’m out of alignment, my body gains weight. When I’m in alignment, my body naturally finds its healthiest state.
Do you want to live in a reality where your love for yourself is conditional? "When I lose this much weight, fit into that pair of jeans, when I’m with a certain guy, when I figure out a particular gym routine, then I’ll be worthy”? Or do you choose to be a REBEL and love yourself unconditionally through all the waves, through all the hardships, challenges, failures, cellulite, heartache, mess etc? Self-love is making that choice. Treating yourself with the utmost respect, being your number one cheerleader, giving yourself extra lashings of love when you are struggling. Self-love is a journey, not a destination. Choose to be a rebel, choose unconditional self-love.
And remember, with self-love anything is possible.
